Preparing Artwork for Screen Printing & Embroidery: A Quick Guide

Great custom apparel starts with great files. Getting your artwork for screen printing and embroidery right up front means cleaner results, faster turnaround, and no surprises. Here is what our production team at Rocky Mountain Promotional Products & Apparel needs to make your design look its best.

Why Good Artwork Matters

The quality of your final print can only be as good as the file you start with. A crisp, properly sized file reproduces cleanly, while a small or blurry image leads to fuzzy edges and disappointing results. A few minutes of prep saves time and rework later.

Best File Types

Vector files (AI, EPS, or PDF) are ideal because they scale to any size without losing quality, which is perfect for logos. High-resolution raster files (PNG or TIFF) can also work. Avoid low-resolution web images and screenshots when possible. Do not have a vector logo? We can often recreate one for you.

Resolution & Size

For raster art, aim for at least 300 DPI at the actual print size. Send artwork at or near the size it will appear on the garment so we can judge detail and placement accurately.

Colors & Separations

Each color in a screen printing design typically needs its own screen, so fewer colors keep costs down. Let us know your exact brand colors (Pantone values are ideal) so we can match them accurately.

Artwork Tips for Embroidery

Embroidery renders fine detail and tiny text differently than printing, since the design is stitched. Simple, bold logos embroider best. We digitize your artwork into a stitch file and can advise on any adjustments for a clean result.
